It is time to prepare for the holiday season with a few beautiful metallic DIY presents! We’re completely into metallics this month, so we couldn’t wait to get our hands on some silver and gold leaf to make some great Christmas presents. Have a peek at our 4 metallic gift ideas, get simple directions, and be motivated to create your own silver and gold foliage metallic gifts!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Silver leaf
- Gold foliage
- Gilding adhesive
- Foam brushes
- Paint brushes
- Tape (optional)
How metallic foil works is, you apply adhesive to the items you’re decorating–you can cover part or all of this item, draw shapes, patterns, etc.–and then press the foil onto the adhesive.
If you’ve got a layout or shape in your mind which you want on your own item, we suggest taping off sections in order to get straight lines and then applying a thin coating of gilding adhesive to your preferred area with a foam brush. Otherwise, feel free to make your layouts by freehand with the adhesive and foam brush. Await your gilding glue to air dry until tacky, and then place the silver or gold leaf over the adhesive and apply with another foam brush.
Brush off any excess leaf with a foam brush if necessary. You can also spray sealant to keep the foil from flaking . Along with your metallic gift is complete!
